Face Lift

Facelift procedures offered at our Adelaide, South Australia Clinic.

Facelifts and Neck Lift procedures are designed to reverse signs of ageing on the face or neck. There are a variety of factors which may cause you to consider a face or a face with neck lift, whether the effects of sun exposure, weight gain or loss, genetic predisposition or the natural ageing process.

Dr Hamilton utilises the Short Scar Face Lift procedure. In some female patient cases, the results may be augmented by fat grafting, using the patient’s own fat cells, to give a more natural look by restoring volume and contour which is lost in the ageing process. Dr Hamilton also offers a male neck lift, known as an Anterior Cervicoplasty. In all his facelift surgeries, Dr Hamilton’s preferred approach is to rejuvenate these areas with a discreet Short Scar Facelift to help restore appearance. This can help by:

  • Redefining the jaw line
  • Smoothing and tightening of the neck
  • Repositioning and elevating of the cheeks and mid-face
  • Elevating the brow and upper eyelids
  • Eliminating in the appearance of jowls
  • Reducing mild facial droopiness
  • Restoring volume and contour by facial fat grafting

Fat Grafting to the face is a recognized and reliable aesthetic procedure with advantages because it takes a  natural approach. Visit our fat grafting page for more information.

The Short Scar Facelift Procedure

Dr Richard Hamilton performs Short Scar Facelift (also known as a Minimal Access Cranial Suspension, MACS Lift) at his Adelaide practice, Hamilton House Plastic Surgery. The incision starts along the hairline at the temple, continuing to the crease in front of the ear and finishing at the ear lobe. Skin is then elevated to insert multiple suspension sutures, which reposition the soft tissues of the face to their natural level. Some skin is removed, and the lower eyelid skin is tightened. The incision is then closed with fine sutures. Because the incision is made at the hairline, scars will be less noticeable and all of your hair and hair volume is preserved, an absolute necessity for most patients. Depending on the condition of your face and your desire for any extra procedures (such as eyelid rejuvenation and fat grafting), the procedure may take up to 4 hours. It is performed in day surgery under twilight sedation; an anaesthetic which enables you to return home after day surgery . Very occasionally a general anaesthesia is used.

Recovery after a Facelift

The recovery period after a facelift may include swelling, numbness, bruising, and tightness, but most patients report little pain and only minor discomfort. Dr Hamilton will personally monitor your progress with frequent checks during the early post-operative period. You will be seen on the first day after the operation and you may shower and shampoo on the second post-operative day. Stitches come out progressively at 5 days and 2 weeks. Once healing is complete, you will have a more youthful, refreshed look that will last for years to come. Most patients can return to work after 3 weeks, or considerably earlier if they are able to work from home.
