Fat Graft Rejuvenation

Fat Grafting Rejuvenation at our Adelaide South Australia Clinic

Fat Grafting is a relatively new technique which uses the body’s own fat cells that  are injected into areas of the body which require filling out. This can rejuvenate and restore the appearance of the face, hands, breasts and areas of deformity caused by injury, to give a fuller, firmer and improved appearance. Fat grafting is a less invasive alternative to surgery, with fewer surgical complications as it uses the body’s own cells to plump and fill out areas, with the added advantage of removing fat from where it is not wanted.

Fat grafting may be used on its own to rejuvenate the face where the ageing signs are mild to moderate, such as in the 30’s or 40’s to create a long term rejuvenation, or it can be used in conjunction with a short scar face lift in patients in their 50’s, 60’s and beyond to restore lost volume. Fat Grafting is used on its own to rejuvenate the appearance of the hands and reduce the signs of ageing.

In the face there are several forms of fat grafting: Micro Fat Graft, Sharp Needle Intradermal Fat Graft (SNIF) and Nano Fat Graft all of which have specific uses but vary in the mode of preparation and injection. Micro Fat Graft is used to restore lost volume in the cheeks, eyelids, lips and temples. Sharp Needle Intradermal Fat is finer fat, which is used to fill in wrinkles and folds in the face such as around the eyes, forehead, nasolabial folds and neck and fine lines on the lips (called the barcode). Nano Fat graft is a concentrated Stem Cell extract, which is injected superficially into the skin to provide skin rejuvenation around the eyes, lips, face and neck.

Dr Hamilton will carefully assess your situation and take the time to discuss whether fat grafting is suitable for your condition and desired outcome.

Fat Grafting Procedure

Dr Richard Hamilton will discuss the fat grafting treatment options available at our Adelaide Practice in South Australia. The procedure may be carried out under intravenous sedation with local anaesthesia or under general anaesthesia if larger areas are to be treated.

Using specialised instruments, fat tissue, including stem cells, are extracted by a gentle vacuum technique from your stomach or inner thighs, then processed by washing and concentration to remove any impurities. Micro Fat, Sharp Needle Intradermal Fat and Stem Cell Nano Fat forms of fat grafts are prepared, and then transferred to your face in very small parcels by injection to maximize graft take. Patients will see the effects after the early swelling has settled. Pain is minimal and is relieved by oral medication. Improvement can continue to be seen up to 6 months after the fat grafting procedure.

Fat Grafting Recovery

Recovery after Fat Grafting is very quick although the early swelling may be dramatic. Patients will see the effects after the early swelling has settled and further improvements over time due to the stem cell effect. Pain is minimal and is relieved by oral medication.

Please note that the information about procedures here is given as a general guide, and is not a substitute for an in depth, personal consultation with Dr. Hamilton. As with any surgery there are risks and complications to consider, all of which will be clearly communicated to you during your one on one consultation with Dr. Hamilton.
