The Short Scar Facelift Procedure
Dr. Hamilton performs a short scar facelift procedures (MACS Lift) at his Adelaide practice. The incision starts along the hairline at the temple, continuing down in the crease in front of the ear, finishing at the ear lobe. The skin is then elevated to allow the insertion of several suspension sutures which reposition the drooping soft tissues of the face to their natural level. Excess skin is lifted and removed and the lower eyelid skin is tightened. The incision is then closed with very finest sutures. Because the incision is made at the hairline, the surgical scars will be hardly noticeable and with Dr. Hamilton’s method all of your hair volume is preserved.
Depending on the condition of your face and your desire for any ancillary procedures such as eyelid rejuvenation, the procedure may take up to four hours. It is performed in day surgery under a sedation anaesthetic (twilight) with you barely being aware and you are able to go home later in the day thus avoiding a hospital stay.
Recovery after Facelift
The recovery period after a facelift may include swelling, numbness, bruising, and tightness, but most patients report surprisingly little pain and only minor discomfort. Once healing is complete, you will have a more youthful, refreshed look that will last for years to come!

Thread Lift
A thread lift performed by our Adelaide cosmetic surgeon is a less invasive alternative to traditional facelift surgery which offers many of the same benefits for less advanced ageing changes.
The thread lift is designed for patients who are looking for more subtle facial rejuvenation than that offered by a traditional facelift and is more suited to younger patients.
The Thread Lift Procedure
The thread lift procedure involves the insertion of thin, polypropylene threads beneath the facial skin through small incisions made above the hairline. The threads attach to the facial tissue and are then pulled back to smooth and tighten the face. This process can eliminate sagging skin and give patients a more youthful appearance. Since this procedure is considerably less invasive than a traditional facelift, it typically takes about an hour or so to perform and patients can opt to remain conscious during the procedure. The thread lift technique is sometimes combined with Dr. Hamilton’s short scar face lift.
Thread Lift Recovery
Recovery after a thread lift may include mild discomfort, some swelling, and bruising. As the threads are knotted underneath the skin, they are hidden, making any residual scarring virtually invisible. Many of the thread lift patients at our Adelaide practice are able to resume their normal routines within a few days of the procedure.
Thread lift is designed for patients between the ages of 25 and 40 who may benefit from a more subtle form of facelift that produces less dramatic results. Patients with severe skin looseness or droopiness may be better served by Dr. Hamilton’s short scar facelift.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
The eyes are often referred to as the window into the mind, so excess skin drooping around your eyes and ageing changes can make you appear tired and older than you really are or feel and in some cases can even affect your vision. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, performed by Dr. Richard Hamilton at our Adelaide practice, is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess skin folds and fat from the upper and lower eyelids, eliminating sagging lids above and puffy bags below the eyes. Blepharoplasty requires the most careful analysis of the deformity so that Dr. Hamilton can judge which procedure will best meet your goals of eyelid rejuvenation.
The Eyelid Surgery Procedure
Upper eyelid surgery, medically referred to as blepharoplasty, is an extremely delicate procedure in which Dr. Hamilton removes the excess fat and skin through an incision that is hidden within the fold of the eyelid. He then reattaches the muscle that elevates the eyelid, to both the tarsal plate and to the eyelid skin to obtain a crisp refreshed appearance of the eyelid. Because it is placed in the crease of the eye, the incision is barely visible after healing.
For lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Hamilton removes excess skin and muscle then he repositions the bulging fat to fill in the “rings” or hollows under the eyes, commonly called the tear trough. This technique cleverly both removes the puffiness and restores a youthful contour . The incision is made below the lower lashes or in the natural crease so that it will be virtually invisible after healing is complete. Eyelid surgery typically takes about one to three hours for most patients and can be combined with a mid facelift or a short scar facelift.
Recovery after Eyelid Surgery
Always performed on a day surgery basis, eyelid surgery at our Adelaide Plastic Surgery clinic, typically has very few uncomfortable after effects. Patients may experience some swelling, bruising, and discoloration around the eyes which usually subsides after several days. Dryness in the eyes can be alleviated with an ointment provided by Dr. Hamilton that may temporarily cause blurry vision. Activities that can dry out the eyes, such as reading, wearing contact lenses, and watching TV, should be avoided for the first week after surgery. Dr. Hamilton will go over all pre-operative and post-operative instructions, as well as the details of the procedure and what to expect, at your consultation. He will also talk to you openly and frankly about potential risks and complications which can occasionally occur.

Computer Imaging
During the initial consultation Dr. Hamilton will perform computer imaging to show you what changes may be undertaken during a rhinoplasty procedure. A profile image will be captured and projected on to a screen. Using the tools of the NASA computer imaging program, Dr. Hamilton can make alterations to your image on screen to illustrate to you the direction the surgery may take. Whilst this does not exactly replicate a rhinoplasty procedure it does provide an excellent guide and will give you an opportunity to communicate what features you would like Dr. Hamilton to make on your nose. Dr. Hamilton has found that computer imaging certainly enhances communication with the patient as he has a better idea of what the patient desires and as a bonus it also leads to better pre operative planning.
The Open Rhinoplasty Procedure
Dr. Richard Hamilton performs rhinoplasty at his Adelaide South Australia practice under either i-v sedation or general anaesthesia. He performs the Open Rhinoplasty method in which incisions are made internally along the nostril rim and communicate with a tiny incision externally across the columella. The Open Rhinoplasty technique of Dr. Hamilton allows unparalleled visibility to the structures inside the nose which need to be reshaped and by placing the incisions inconspicuously there is virtually no visible scarring. Rhinoplasty involves altering the shape of the nose cartilages at the tip and sides, the nasal bones, the bridge or bump and finally the cartilage of the septum, especially if the nose is crooked or if there is a breathing problem. The modern Rhinoplasty operation is much more scientific than it was even ten years ago and the emphasis is on conserving tissue and achieving structure and definition rather than removing valuable and irreplaceable tissues. Depending on the individual, nose reshaping takes one to three hours to complete.

Recovery after Rhinoplasty
Complete recovery from nose reshaping can take up to two weeks. Wrinkle Reduction
Wrinkles are an unfortunate part of life. Facial expressions, the aging process, and the weather can speed up their development and make them much more obvious. Dr. Hamilton offers dermal hyaluronic acid filler injections designed to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Ear Pinning (Otoplasty)
When a child or young adult has especially large or protruding ears, self-esteem can suffer. Ear pinning (or otoplasty) is a surgical procedure that corrects prominent ears by setting them closer to the head, changing their apparent size and shape. This procedure is most commonly performed between the ages of five and 14, but it can be performed on adults as well. Ear pinning is a highly effective procedure that can improve both appearance and self-confidence. It is fast, safe, and extremely effective.
Ear pinning begins with an incision made behind the ear, after which the ear cartilage is reshaped by sculpturing techniques similar to rhinoplasty and with special internal sutures. The cartilage is then splinted—or pinned—into position by external sutures, and the ear is allowed to bend toward the side of the head. Ear pinning takes one to two hours to complete, and most normal activities can be resumed within one week. Dr. Hamilton is very experienced with ear pinning operations.
